Bonnie Ormes, Health Science Instructor
The program provides students with opportunities to explore a variety of health careers and make realistic and satisfying career choices. Whether a student is skilled in scientific research, clinical laboratory procedures, written and verbal communication skills, or is skilled in caring for people, career options are available to match these individual interests and abilities. The instructional content for the Therapeutic Services pathway is organized into two federally-identified career pathways: Nursing and Allied Health.
Intended to be a 2-year course of study, students have time to explore their academic and career options. Boone County ATC expands the educational opportunities well beyond the confines of the classroom walls. Once students demonstrate a proficient knowledge base, a professional attitude and work ethic, and an eagerness to apply what they have learned in their course of study, co-op opportunities are readily available. Allowing students to "try on" a career can strongly influence both the academic and the career paths. Often, facilities who provide the co-op opportunities are the same facilities where employment will be sought after graduation. Between the clinical experiences, the co-ops, and intern opportunities, Boone County ATC's Health Science students already have a head start on success after high school!!
